Paolo Pizzi was born in Bologna (Italy) July-19, 1975. He approached to music at the age of 13 years studying modern guitar with the jazz-artist and teacher Giampiero Martirani. Studies on guitar continues for about a decade. The course included, from the beginning, the study of modern harmony and music theory in addition to advanced practice technique on the instrument.

At the age of 19, alongside the guitar course, he started playing and studying electric bass with Domenico Loparco (well-known Italian session musician and solo artist) and double-bass with the jazz artists Glauco Zuppiroli and Enrico Lazzarini. Throughout this period he also attended seminars and workshops deepening the practice on his instruments, approaching the study of ear-training and modern composition techniques with internationally renowned musicians including: Daniele Dall’Omo (guitarist, Paolo Conte, jazz session musician and solo artist) and Donovan Mixon (jazz artist, teacher at the Berklee School Of Boston).

Besides this guided course of studies, Paolo soon combined a self-study one, characterized by a passion for classical music in admixture with contemporary music.

The job as professional session musician began in 1999, and still sees, to date, Paolo Pizzi involved as session bassist and/or guitarist in various musical projects in different fields: pop, rock, blues and jazz. As a composer and arranger for hire or reward. Besides as a teacher of electric bass and modern guitar at some local music schools, developing individual and group lessons, master classes and seminars, covering, in some cases, also the role of school headmaster and artistic director.

All through an intense artistic activity as a session musician both live and in the studio that he usually develops all over Europe and that led him to collaborate, to date, with many important musicians such as:

Since 2006 he also composed works of contemporary classical music and jazz pieces with which is often involved in several international composition competitions.While activity as session musician continues, he founded in 2008 ‘New Contemporary Classics’, open project through which he proposes its own repertoire of contemporary classical music. Since 2008 to date, he performs stably as a bassist on tour with Trio Gold Rush Trio/Q.tet, Bluesbreakout and with his own trio, apart from several collaborations as 'freelance' musician.

Paolo Pizzi nasce a Bologna (Italia) il 19 luglio 1975. Approccia alla musica all’età di 13 anni studiando chitarra moderna con il jazzista Giampiero Martirani, gli studi chitarristici proseguono per circa un decennio.

Il percorso didattico comprende fin da subito lo studio dell’armonia moderna e la pratica del solfeggio oltre alla tecnica avanzata sullo strumento.

All’età di 19 anni affianca allo studio della chitarra quello del basso elettrico con il musicista Domenico Loparco (turnista di fama nazionale, Dalla, Renato Zero, ecc.) e del contrabbasso prima con il jazzista Glauco Zuppiroli (Vinicio Capossela) e poi con Enrico Lazzarini. Durante tutto questo periodo frequenta anche seminari e workshop di approfondimento sia sulla chitarra moderna che sul basso elettrico/contrabbasso con musicisti di fama internazionale fra i quali: Daniele Dall’Omo (chitarrista di Paolo Conte) e Donovan Mixon (insegnante presso la Berklee School Of Boston).

Con quest’ultimo approfondisce lo studio dell’ear-training e delle moderne tecniche di composizione.

A questo percorso formativo guidato, se ne affianca uno autodidattico caratterizzato dalla passione per la musica classica anche in commistione con la musica contemporanea.

L’attività di musicista professionista, iniziata nel 1999, vede a tutt’oggi Paolo Pizzi impegnato come bassista/contrabbassista/chitarrista turnista in vari ambiti musicali: pop, rock, blues e jazz.

Come compositore e arrangiatore per conto terzi in ambito classica contemporanea, pop e rock. Oltre che come insegnante di basso elettrico e chitarra moderna presso varie scuole di musica, sviluppando lezioni individuali e di gruppo, master-class e seminari e ricoprendo, in alcuni casi, anche il ruolo di direttore didattico/artistico.
